In recent years both Trapani’s historical centre and sea front have been the object of significant restyling, which has resulted in an ever more beautiful and habitable city. The large pedestrian zone, which includes Via Garibaldi, Via Torrearsa, and Corso Vittorio Emmanuele, is full of elegant boutiques, open-air bars and restaurants, and is perfect for a leisurely stroll. It is also great to lose yourself among the many little streets and squares which are scattered across the city, or cool off with a swim in the crystalline sea of the Trapanese coast with a dive off the old bastions of the Tramontana city walls, which extend a few kilometres along the coast from the old fish market.

The history of this tradition is told through authentic masterpieces held in the Museo Pepoli which is housed in the ex-Carmelite convent attached to the Santuario dell’Annunziata.
The museum centre, subdivided into various sections, gives ample space to the applied and decorative Trapanese arts like coral-working, gold and silver working, and the manufacture of majolica ware. Around a hundred examples of religious objects and jewellery are on display in the museum, as well as numerous furnishings and nativity scenes.
A visit to the santuario dell’Annunziata allows you to admire the Cappella dei Marinai (the Sailors’ chapel) with its magnificent Oriental and Renaissance decoration, the Cappella dei Pescatori (the fishermen’s chapel) with its frescoed cupola, and the Cappella della Madonna (the Madonna’s chapel). In the Cappella della Madonna it is possible to admire the statue of the Madonna of Trapani which was created in the fourteenth century by the sculptor Nino Pisano.
After much art and culture, indulge your palate with the pleasures of the local cuisine. Go on an adventure of discovery among the small bakeries and food shops of the centre of Trapani to sample the cannoli, mini cassatas, and almond based sweets.
